The Region is working on environmentally sustainable solutions to prevent flooding and reinforce safety against storms such as the one that recently hit the Region of Murcia. That is what the General Director of Territory and Architecture, Jaime Pérez Zuleta, said in his closing speech of the workshop 'Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS)', organised by the Regional Federation of Businesspersons in the Construction Industry (Frecom).
The regional head highlighted the work of the expert panel created by the regional government with the aim of designing and implementing flood prevention measures. These proposals aim to reduce the force of water in water courses in the event of heavy rainfall, with wider flood plains, relief zones that limit water pressure, and measures to improve soil permeability.
He also emphasised that the Region is leading the 'Sustainable Construction and Architecture Strategy', an action programme that aims to promote nature-based solutions in the Region's municipalities as a strategy for the renaturalisation of cities, and to improve the living conditions of their inhabitants. These are actions inspired by nature and its processes, in response to the challenges of climate change in urban settlements.
