A new sustainable architecture model in the Region's municipalities is possible

The Autonomous Region and town councils set up a platform to develop the new sustainable architecture model in the municipalities

The Regional Government and town councils of the Region of Murcia this week set up a platform to develop the Sustainable Construction and Architecture Strategy (EACS) at a municipal level. It is about creating a "place for meeting and collaboration", in which the local leaders and technical staff can participate.

The change to a sustainable model of architecture proposed by the regional government encourages the renaturalisation of homes and cities, which will have a positive impact on people's health and the environment, whilst generating new business opportunities to boost building activity in the Region of Murcia.

The general director for Territory and Architecture, Jaime Pérez Zulueta, emphasised the importance of "promoting the exchange of experiences and knowledge to seek joint solutions to the urban challenges covered in the Urban Agenda 2030, especially those referring to prevention and mitigation of the effects of climate change in cities".

"We want to give a bigger role to town councils during the current phase of development and implementation of the Sustainable Construction and Architecture Strategy", stated Pérez Zulueta. He noted the importance of identifying and spreading awareness of the good practices developed within municipalities so that "everyone is aware of the viability of the measures proposed by this new building model".

The regional official highlighted the opportunity offered by the new European funds and stated that EACS "is fully aligned with the new ecological transition policies enacted by the European Union".

Furthermore, he recalled that the EACS is the roadmap for the transition from a linear economic model to a circular model in the building sector in the Region. It covers all of the phases of the building process: product, construction, use and end of life of the buildings.
